Coastal Access SiteJarvis Creek Preserve
Branford, Connecticut Describe Site  Map Site Printable Version Help
This neighborhood scale preserve in the village of Stony Creek on Jarvis Creek and Long Island Sound offers fine views of the Thimble Islands. The preserve contains coastal forest, tidal marsh, a small old field, an old quarry pit and other relics of the area’s quarry industry. Pedestrian only trails (blue rectangular and white circle blazes) access most of the preserve and provide vistas of the creek, marsh and Long Island Sound. Use the Branford Land Trust trail maps to navigate through the area's contiguous<a href=’ http://branfordlandtrust.org/wp-cont3nt/uploads/2014/01/WeilProperty.pdf’>Weil</a> and <a href=’ http://branfordlandtrust.org/wp-cont3nt/uploads/2014/01/StonyCreekWashburn.pdf’>Stony Creek Partnership/Washburn</a> Preserves.  A boardwalk crosses the marsh to a small island and an old tide gate. Be extremely careful when approaching the crossing at the tide gate where the trail is eroding. The trail continues from this point onto an adjacent preserve on the east side of Jarvis Creek.  Bicycles are not allowed at the Preserve. Please read the Branford Land Trust public use policy at their website (provided below). There is an unimproved area for parking two cars on the left side of Buena Vista Road immediately after where the paved road ends. Ignore the 'No Tresspassing'  sign posted near the entrance to the site. The Land Trust's access easement along this roadway leading to an unusual geodesic dome structure provides legal pedestrian access to the Preserve's trails.  Parking is also available on nearby Thimble Island Road.
