About the Long Island Sound Resource Center
Welcome to the Long Island Sound Resource Center. The Resource Center was established in 1988 as a central clearinghouse for information and data related to the Sound. This web site is an ongoing project to provide access to data and information about the Sound.
Visitors can learn about scientific research, access data, view interactive maps, search literature related to the Sound, browse a directory of organizations and information sources, or look for locations to access the Sound.

CT DEP Department of Environmental Protection, Office of Long Island Sound Programs provided financial assistance for the development of this web site.
University of Connecticut University of Connecticut at Avery Point through the Marine Sciences Program provides facilities, hardware, and software for the Long Island Sound Resource Center and this web site.
NOAA National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management provided financial assistance through the Department of Environmental Protection, Office of Long Island Sound Programs by the Coastal Zone Management Act of 1972, as amended.
USGS United States Geological Survey, Coastal and Marine Geology Program in Woods Hole, Massachusetts has participated in a collaborative program of geologic research with the Department of Environmental Protection in the Long Island Sound area since 1980. Data from these studies are included in this web site.
NURC National Undersea Research Center for the North Atlantic & Great Lakes provides technical support to the Long Island Sound Resource Center.
LISF Long Island Sound Foundation has provided funding to support the Long Island Sound Resource Center and owns the Long Island Sound Foundation collection.

Ralph Lewis is the author of the section on geologic research. He was the Connecticut State Geologist from 1997 until his retirement in 2003. He was instrumental in the creation of the Resource Center.
